Wichita Brewing Company: First Look at the East Side

Foodies and Beer Lovers rejoice! There’s a new establishment out east for you to get your fix in for hand crafted beers and some good pizza.

Wichita Brewing Company, which has been on the West side for a long time, just opened up their second location on the east side of Wichita on June 1st.

They are located at 535 N Woodlawn. Now be careful when you drive by because it’s not the most visible place off of Woodlawn. It’s a little buried at the northwest corner of Central and Woodlawn in the building where Kyoto Steakhouse used to be. There’s a sign located in front of Great Harvest Bread Company or if you’re coming off of Central, it’s well behind the Ace Hardware. A couple of my friends had a wee bit of trouble finding it but once you do, you’ll smack your brain and realize it really wasn’t that hard to find.

The east side Wichita Brewing Company is open 11 am to 11 pm Sunday thru Thursday and 11 am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

For those unfamiliar with Wichita Brewing Company, they specialize in wood fired pizzas and hand crafted beers brewed on site. They are a local company that started in Wichita and now have two locations.

They have a beautifully designed website that has all the information you’ll need on what they serve: http://wichitabrew.com/wpd/  (Their new menu is coming soon).

A group of five of us went in to check the place out and get a first look at what to expect. First thoughts was the layout of the restaurant was very nice. At one corner is where they make their pizzas and another corner is the bar, the rest is seating with plenty of televisions. They had a very small patio out front that wasn’t ready for seating yet. I was hoping for a bigger patio but space is limited in that strip center.

Everybody ordered a bit of something and we all tried an assortment of different beers they had on hand. If you don’t know what you like in regards to beer, you can order flights of four samples for $5 or 8 for $10. I tried two different flights just to get a good sampling of what they had on hand.

My friend ordered the pizza rolls that smelled delicious when they came out. By the time I finished one sample, he had already eaten all of his pizza rolls. He said they were really good but at the speed he ate I’m not sure if he could have been able to tell if they were. I need to sign him up for some food eating challenges.

The rest of us split the Banick Pizza (spicy Capicola ham, chicken, Italian Sausage, pepperoni, sweet pepper bacon, and andouille sausage) and the Buffalo Perfection (Wood-fired chicken, peppers on top of Buffalo sauce, with good blue cheese drizzle). Pizzas were $11 each and about the size of the pizza you can get at Il Vicino. I can only speak for the Banick Pizza and it was delicious. Another friend of mine enjoyed it as well. As for the Buffalo Perfection, another friend thought it was really good but he’s also a fan of Wichita Brewing Company so he’s had it before.

All in all, our first look at Wichita Brewing Company was a positive visit filled with good drinks, good food and good service. It’s a place we will definitely be adding to our rotation as it’s close to homes and a good setup to watch some basketball or football games at.

I’m really excited to see what kind of future this place has.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
