New Buffalo Chicken Fries |
I’m a sucker for gimmicks. When I see some big marketing blitz on a new product, I’ll do my best to give it a try. Recently Burger King has their Halloween Whopper with the black bun. I went a couple weeks ago to give it a try and they gave me a regular Whopper. I was so disappointed until one of my buddies told me, “That’s good. I tried it and I didn’t……………”. The rest of what he said probably isn’t safe for the blog. Needless to say you probably read online what happened to people who ate the Halloween Whopper.
In the past couple week’s, Burger King has been out with a new advertising blitz, this time on their new limited time Buffalo Chicken Fries.
Ever since Burger King has put spicy items on their menu, sales have gone up. So this is their latest attempt to draw more customers. So usually, I avoid fast food restaurants. The only time I’ll ever go is when something new is out to try once, the McRib is in stores or my friends force me to stop by one on a road trip.
So here we are with the latest gimmick. For $2.89, you get 9 chicken fries and your choice of sauce. In the commercials, this is what it looks like:
When I got home and opened up my cool looking container, this is what I saw:
Do you see how much darker my Chicken Fries look compared to the advertising? They don’t look as tempting either.

But sometimes food that doesn’t look appealing may surprise you with their taste.
I tried one without any of the chicken sauce and they tasted burnt, overdone, and dry. There wasn’t much of a buffalo taste to them either; not spicy at all or remotely spicy. Trying them with the sauce was much better as the sauce hid how bland they were.
I ended up finishing all nine of the chicken fries and just sat there in my chair and wondered to myself, “That’s it?” I was so underwhelmed.
Between this, my failed Halloween Whopper experiment, and Burger King’s attempt at a McRib knockorf, I may be done with gimmick attempts.
Seriously though if they put out another random, I’d probably be stupid enough to try another one again.
So on the question if Burger King’s Buffalo Chicken Fries are worth it, I say nay.
Happy Dining
