One of the biggest festivals in Wichita set for October 28 and it’s free!

Wichita Asian Festival

If you haven’t put it on your calendar yet, I strongly encourage you all to set aside some time on Saturday, October 28 to attend the 37th Annual Wichita Asian Festival. It takes place at the Century II Convention and Exhibition Halls from 5-9:30pm. And best of all, the event is free for everybody to attend.

For your price of free here’s what you get to be a part of:

  • 14 on stage performances highlighting a variety of Asian culture

  • 9 countries represented by the contestants in the Miss Wichita Asian Festival

  • 50 vendor booths – shop for Asian food and a variety of arts items

  • Kid’s Corner – Your children will enjoy an assortment of Asian children’s activities, and more

Let’s face it, you all love Asian food. I know you do. There will be so many food vendors, food trucks and local restaurants on hand serving different ethnicities of food. You’ll get to try all sorts of dishes from countries spanning all over Asia. You’ll get to see traditional clothing from the area. There will be all sorts of different art events such as hand painting (Hana), face decoration etc. Vendors will also be on hand selling arts and crafts. You’ll definitely want to bring some extra cash with you.

This is a very family friendly event for people of all ages and races.

Wichita Asian Festival

I was fortunate to be a part of the event a couple of years ago and it really opened my eyes to all sorts of different cultures.

There’s also the Miss Asian Festival 2017 scholarship pageant taking place. Houston-based performers Kim Kuja School of Dance is this year’s featured guest performance. By incorporating costumes and various musical instruments, the Kim Kuja Korean dance program offers a unique and rare opportunity for the public to observe and learn about Korean culture. While I missed last year, the year I helped out there were some crazy performing arts taking place. I have it penciled in to go this year. I can’t miss two years in a row.

On the Wichita Asian Festival website, they have this great video that highlights all of the great things. I encourage you all to check it out.
