2017 was a big year for new restaurant openings and of course the usual restaurant closings. We saw a great mixture of new restaurants with different concepts. Over the past year, I’ve been out visiting many of these new establishments and thought it’d be nice to go over what my favorites were.
I focused strictly on local establishments (non-national chains) as well as places that have been open before December. Enjoy…………..
Dempsey’s Biscuit Co.
Address: 3425 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS
Review
Chicken and biscuits…..need I say more? This Dempsey’s spin-off has been a busy addition to the restaurant scene. With a third Dempsey’s on the way, it’ll be interesting how they differ from Biscuit and Burger company.
Noble House
Address: 3238 E Douglas, Wichita, KS
Review
It was a big year for Hawaiian food in this area of town. Some of you may be familiar with their food truck. If so, you’ll want to visit their actual restaurant.
New Paradise Biryani Pointe
Address: 1648 S Rock Road, Wichita, KS
Review
While there’s a decent amount of Indian food around town, it’s all located in a three-mile radius on the northeast side of town. New Paradise Biryani Pointe offers delicious authentic Indian food at a great price.
PokeMix
Address: 8918 W 21st St N, Wichita, KS
Review
It’s the Chipotle version of poke available in Wichita. It’s quick, easy and fantastic. Now they just need an east side location.
Sharon’s Place
Address: 141 E Kay St. Suite #400, Derby, KS
Review
Different than Noble House, this Hawaiian restaurant has much more a family feel to it. Located in Derby, Sharon’s Place has it all with great food, great prices and great people.
Miri’s Mini’s
Address: 3543 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS
Review
These miniature donuts are a hit with every single person I have introduced them too. College Hill has been extremely lucky with three new restaurants to make this list.
Sorrel Jamaican Food
Address: 1517 E Hyde Park, Wichita, KS
Review
Easily my favorite new food truck of the year and was lucky to stumble across this one. They are what I believe to be the only place in town you can get Jamaican food. Of all the new trucks you visit, let this be the first one.
Augustino Brewing Company
Address: 756 N Tyler Road, Wichita, KS
Review
Beyond the beer, the food here is simply wonderful. It’s rare that breweries and bars have food this great, Augustino is one of those exceptions.
There were some other “new” restaurants late in 2016 that missed the cut due to it being a different year like The Kitchen and La Isla Mexican Seafood but I wanted to give them a shout out. Were there any new places that I missed or didn’t stop by this past year? Feel free to comment below.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
