Bill’s Charcoal Grill: burgers that standout as one of Wichita’s best

Bill's Charcoal Grill

For decades, Bill’s Charcoal Grill has been sitting at the corner of 29th and Arkansas next door to another local favorite: Paleteria La Reyna.

Famous for their flavorful char grilled burgers, I have long stated that they are one of the top burgers in the city of Wichita. Their grill is the main attraction of the restaurant having served thousands of happy customers over the years. It’s time now to give Bill’s Charcoal Grill their own well deserved review here at Wichita By E.B.

Over the years, Bill’s Charcoal Grill took on new ownership. The new owners added in a little Hispanic influence to the menu making some changes to their dinner menu. But for those making the trek out to Bill’s, you have to try their CharBurgers at least once.

I’ve gone multiple times over the past year and have ordered a variety of different burgers off of their menu from their California Burgers to the regular cheeseburger to a chili burger to burgers with eggs on it.

One thing to try on your first visit is to simply try their regular hamburger and adding nothing on it. Doing this, you get to truly experience how a burger should be cooked. If a burger restaurant can cook a plain burger to perfection, they can then offer any sort of burger with whatever toppings they’d like. One of my colleagues ordered a burger with no bun and was in love with the smoky flavor and well-seasoned patty. It was basic but basically perfect.

The bun is also just about as good as you can get it. Their toasted bun is done just to the point where it doesn’t fall apart from being too toasted and soft enough to squeeze and still maintain the burger without being mushy. My colleague said she loved the aroma of the bun. That’s honestly the first time I’ve had someone comment on the smell of a bun on any review.

When you order your burgers, you’re asked how you’d like your 1/3 lb patty to be cooked; most opted for medium to medium well.

The fries are also a great compliment to the burgers; salted just right and offering the crispness one would expect. If you’re looking for additional condiments, they have a little bar set aside you can add as much as you’d like.

The service there while sometimes slow to get your order is so incredibly friendly. The same gentleman has been taking orders there for as long as I can remember in recent memory and is nice to everyone that walks in those doors.

Literally everybody I’ve introduced Bill’s Charcoal Grill to has raved about how great it is. If you’re reading this, let us introduce you to Bill’s as well. Check them out soon and you’ll realize that they are one of the best in town.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
