You may have noticed some construction taking place at the Plazzio at 13th and Greenwich. You may or may not know by now that it’s set to be a Chicken N Pickle. With one location already in north Kansas City, many people in Wichita don’t have any idea what Chicken N Pickle is. Well let us at Wichita By E.B. help you.
On a recent trip to Kansas City, I was our D.O.F. (Director of Fun). It was up to me to decide what our plans were for the weekend. Immediately I already knew a visit to Chicken N Pickle would be top priority. With a second location under development in Wichita, I had to stop by and see what it was like and whether Wichita would enjoy having one.
For starters, Chicken N Pickle is a huge indoor/outdoor restaurant that serves chicken and has pickleball courts for people to play on. Along with all that, they have a bunch of lawn games for people to play and table tennis all outside. During our visit, the weather was a nice cool 80 degrees which was perfect.
The Chicken N Pickle in Kansas City is two floors with the second floor holding a stage and additional seating.
The stage also provides a great lookout of the massive restaurant.
Outside they have lawn chairs, tables, table tennis, a bunch of bags games, Jenga, lifesize Battleship, all sorts of fun things to do along with drinking and eating. My friends and I found ourselves playing bags for a good three to four hours.
Can’t forget about pickleball. It’s a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It’s played ona badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. It’s played with a paddle and a whiffle ball sized plastic ball with holes. It can be played by people of all ages and easy to learn.
They have indoor and outdoor courts available. Open play is $5 a person with pickleball rental of $3 and paddle rental of $3. You can rent courts for $20 an hour during the weekday or $40 an hour on weeknights and weekends.
And of course there’s the food. You can look at the menu here, there’s plenty of chicken on the menu given their name. They have wood-fired rotisserie chicken, chicken sandwiches, chicken salads, among other items. There’s definitely no shortage of chicken options in Wichita. At Chicken N Pickle, you wait in line to order, pay and they give you a number for your food.
The Kansas City location is massive but many employees there told us the 8,000 square foot Wichita location will end up being bigger than the original.
Weather permitting, Chicken N Pickle could be an extremely fun place. All of my friends had a fantastic time there and are already excited for the Wichita opening. I reached out to them and they couldn’t stick to a specific timeframe of an opening besides “It should be done by the end of the year.”
Be sure to like them on Facebook to keep up to date on the Wichita location.
