Food Truck: Tacos La Hacienda Review

Tacos La Hacienda
It’s no secret that on north Broadway there are a plethora of delicious food trucks serving out burritos, tortas, enchiladas and tacos. Our latest visit takes us to Tacos La Hacienda near 2455 N. Broadway. They are out there six days a week as they are closed on Tuesdays so you can cross them off your list if you’re wanting to celebrate Taco Tuesday.

Their menu offers a big variety of different meats including lengua, barbacoa, asada, buche, carnitas, pastor, pollor, and tripas.  On our stop, we ordered an assortment of different tacos that covered most of the menu: lengua, asada, buche, carnitas, pastor, polloa and tripas. Each taco costs $2 which includes tax. It took roughly 10 minutes for them to make our tacos.

Tacos La Hacienda

There’s a little table out front if you choose to eat there and watch the Broadway traffic and the occasional passing train.

The tacos are served with many of the basic staples. The one omission was the lack of salsa which was ok because just like a great steak, a great taco shouldn’t need any sauce. Unfortunately for Tacos La Hacienda, salsa was needed. The buche tacos tasted like freezer burn which lasted all day long in my mouth. The carnitas and pollo were very dry and lacked any flavor. The tripas had a strong long-lasting fishy taste. While the pastor was a bit fatty, that was the most flavorful of the tacos but by that point the damage was done.

Tacos La Hacienda

This was one visit that was a major fail for us.

The one saving grace about Tacos La Hacienda was their generosity. A man was walking down the street looking very down in the dumps. He told the staff that he only had a couple of quarters and asked if he could get a bottled for what change he had. The staff gave him a drink and as he turned away, they asked if he was hungry. They then offered him a plate of tacos. It was a kind gesture they didn’t need to do at all but did.

But if you’re going there strictly there for food, there is just too much competition on Broadway that offers a much better taco.
