Egg Cetera offers late night tacos on the weekends in Old Town

Egg Cetera

When it comes to late night food downtown there aren’t too many options. Delano Diner is open 24 hours on the weekends, Old Chicago’s kitchen is open until 1:30am. But there’s a breakfast restaurant in Old Town that is slinging out tacos until 3am on the weekends. It’s Egg Cetera.

A breakfast restaurant you ask? Don’t be alarmed, the owners used to own Casa Del Charro when it was on north Arkansas. They know a thing about tacos considering they won the 2017 Wichita Taco Fest. With Casa Del Charro closed, many menu items have slowly been coming over to Egg Cetera. And their popular award winning tacos can now be had late nights on the weekend.

On Friday and Saturday between 10pm and 3am, you can bring your sober (or drunk) self over to Egg Cetera and purchase tacos for $2.50 each. This past week (until June 29), Egg Cetera has been offering their tacos for a dollar a piece over lunch time. Figuring I don’t make it to Old Town often between 10pm and 3am, I swung by over lunch with a friend to give these tacos a try. Five meat options were available on our visit: Al pastor, Asada, Carnitas, Chicken, and Ground beef.

We ordered a bit of everything. The tacos came with grilled onions and a rainbow of different colored tortilla shells which didn’t do much for taste but made for a great visual presentation. The green and red salsas supplied with the tacos were also fantastic.  The red provided plenty of heat with great flavor while the green was a bit more mild but still delicious as well.

And the tacos? The only taco meat that wasn’t great was the asada. My friend noted hers was a bit tough and dry. I’m not the biggest fan of chicken tacos but Egg Cetera did an amazing job and it was juicy and flavorful. Of all the tacos we tried, my favorites were the al pastor, chicken and carnitas. Three of them should fill you up. Don’t judge me that I went with five though. 🙁

I could only imagine how much more a drunk person would enjoy these at 2am. One of these days I’ll have to give it a try…… as a social experiment of course.

To make it even better, the service there was incredible. My friend works downtown and never knew Egg Cetera existed so she was pleasantly surprised. For me, it’s been on my list of places to try ever since I heard they had tacos. I’m finally glad I did.

People are always asking for late night eats so here’s one to add to your list.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
