One of my favorite Mexican restaurants can now be found up north. Taqueria El Fogon, who has their original location at 1555 S. Bluffview, now has a food truck that’s open six days a week at 25th and Arkansas.

The same menu found at the original location is also available at the truck. In the back of the truck is also a rotating spit where the al pastor is sliced from.
Since Taqueria El Fogon is one of my favorite places for tacos, I wanted to see how the truck compared to the brick & mortar. I ordered al pastor, lengua, tripas, and buche. The tacos came out extremely fast.
The same condiments and sides are also supplied with your tacos only upon request.
So how did the tacos compare? I couldn’t even tell the difference. The little handheld street tacos provided a tremendous amount of flavor. Each taco kept is simply just the meat and topped with chopped onions, cilantro and a squirt of lime. It’s amazing how something so basic can be so delicious. Of all the meats, the al pastor (which they are known for) and the tripas were my favorite. The tripas was grilled with a slight crunch while the al pastor had a light crisp and seasoned with dried chiles and pineapple juice. Wowzers.
Taqueria El Fogon has such a huge following and pack their original location despite being off the beaten path. Now those fans can also find them up north. The corner of 25th and Arkansas just might be the best corner in Wichita for tacos. Between the mobile truck and Mr. Taco, I don’t think I can name a better intersection for Mexican food.
My next visit there will certainly be for the Hawaiiana Torta.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
