Our latest review brought us to El Molcajete Mexican Food that sits inside a former Sonic building on 47th street. Open since April of 2016, we finally made it out to get a glimpse of the tacos served there.

Tacos at El Molcajete are $1.99 to $2.15 depending on the type of meat you choose. We ordered a mix of asada, al pastor, tripe and tongue. We ordered these to go and they each came with a mix of green and red salsa but not much.
When we arrived home and started eating, we knew immediately it wasn’t the same quality as the best tacos we’ve had so far. The single tortilla shells didn’t hold up well and were incredibly soggy. The al pastor was the best of the meats but that was by default. The tripe was just like the tortilla…soggy and chewy. I prefer my tripe to be a little crunchy. The tongue tasted a little off and we ended up not even finishing our tacos.
Unfortunately this was a no go for us and one of the less impressive stops on our ventures around town for tacos.
That’s the readers digest version of this restaurant. Perhaps a non Taco review of this place will take place later on.
Here’s their menu:
