One of the newer dessert places in west Wichita is Andy’s Frozen Custard. It’s a kid-friendly chain that specializes in, you guessed it, custard. Frozen custard is a cold dessert similar to ice cream, but made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar. It is usually kept at a warmer temperature compared to ice cream, and typically has a denser consistency.
Frozen custard was really popularized in Wichita thanks to Freddy’s Frozen Custard who also originated here. Some friends, the kids and I stopped by Andy’s to get an idea of what to expect for all of our readers.

Andy’s is more of a carryout type of restaurant. You order and pick up the custard from the walk up window. There’s no inside seating but plenty of room around the facility to walk around and enjoy your custard. This might make it a little tough though on cooler or rainy nights. There is a drive-thru though for those on the go.
The kids ordered a little bit of everything and had no problems devouring it. It’s hard to get an opinion from a couple eight year olds but the fact that they said it was “really good” and finished it was good enough for me. The key sign is they finished it. If they threw some of it away, then there would be a cause for concern.
The area was fun and inviting. You are able to even watch them make the custard which the kids enjoyed thoroughly. The staff on hand was very friendly and great with the kids. The menu had plenty of options to choose from so there’s always something for everyone.
When it comes to dessert spots, the kids usually enjoy everything. So we try to rate these places by four qualities:
1.) Service
2.) Quality
3.) Cleanliness
4.) Price
We saw no issues in either of these areas and would recommend this place to everyone.
Be sure to check them out on Facebook.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
