For twenty years, Egg Roll King has been offering Chinese takeout in Wichita. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve driven by here and never stopped in. That streak ended this past week as we finally made it out to one restaurant that has been on my list of places to try for well over a year.

Egg Roll King is your basic Chinese hole in the wall. There’s limited seating, it’s cash only, and it’s locally owned. The main chef there actually used to head up Kwan Court many years ago. The menu (which can be found below) has all of the chicken, beef, and shrimp staples commonly found at any Chinese restaurant.
My buddy and I went after a round of golf. It was a first ever visit for the both of us. Upon walking in, we were kindly greeted by a sweet older lady who patiently waited as we debated forever on what to get. Eventually we settled on spicy general chicken and the Thai spicy chicken. Each meal came with your choice of one egg roll or two crab rangoon. We ordered one of each because it was a no-brainer to get an egg roll at a restaurant named EGG ROLL KING. And only because it sounded good, I ordered a bowl of hot and sour soup to go with it.
The food didn’t take long at all. And in the amount of time it took to get our food, it was gone.
Both meals were delicious. Neither of us would call our meals spicy but our tolerance for it is probably higher than a common diner. Regardless of that, it was very flavorful and not too salty at all. The fried rice was also fantastic as was the hot and sour soup. It was ten times better than many of the quick Chinese places like Great Wall or Panda Express.
We did have one small gripe. While the egg roll was good and all but it was pretty bare bones inside. They could have packed it a little more with some more meat or cabbage or something. Still for the $7 we spent on the meals, it was a good portion at an awesome value.
Extremely nice people, quick and convenient, locally owned, great price and portion…… all reasons that Egg Roll King is a winner in our books.
