In the mood for some sushi, we stopped by a restaurant we haven’t been to in many years. Our latest review brought us to Wasabi Sushi Bar West.

It was an impromptu lunch to kill some time. Given that it’s been close to a decade since our last visit, we walked into the place with zero expectations. We were seated right away and glanced through the menu which you can find at the end of this blog.
We ended up ordering:
- 911 Roll: Spicy tuna and cucumber topped with avocado
- Super Tiger: Crab, avocado, and shrimp tempura topped with spicy tuna, avocado, and ebi shrimp. Drizzled with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crunchies
- Sushi Burrito: Spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, crab salad, and avocado. Wrapped in rice and soy paper, Cut in two and served with a side of spicy mayonnaise, eel sauce and sriracha.
I ordered the sushi burrito simply because so many people mentioned it after my visit out to Bento Cafe and their version of the burrito.
You never know how long some places are going to take making sushi. Wasabi was sort of busy that afternoon but it took a little longer than usual for our food to come out.
We started off with the sushi burrito. We were very let down by it. The rice and soy paper fell apart almost immediately. All the tuna was at one end of the burrito and it was extremely hard to get any bite that grabbed everything. One bite would be all rice while the next bite was mostly crab salad. It’d be like making a breakfast burrito but putting egg only at one end. It didn’t make sense. And the three sauce sides given were so minuscule that it was gone after one or two dips. The idea of a sushi burrito is awesome but the execution was horrible.
As for the 911 Roll and the Super Tiger, we didn’t mind either one but also didn’t leave impressed. They were good rolls but we’ve had better elsewhere for the $10-11 we spent on each one.
As for the service, it was also a little slow. Our server seemed more preoccupied with other things. Overall it was a less than average visit that didn’t give us many reasons to go back again.
Here’s their menu:
