Asia One just one of many quick service Chinese restaurants in town

Asia One

As we continue our quest to venture out to every restaurant in Wichita, our latest visit brought us to Asia One. They are your typical Chinese restaurant in the same vein of Great Wall and Dragon Express.

The menu is very similar to all the quick service Chinese restaurants in town especially Great Wall. You can find the menu at the end of this blog. On a random evening, we decided to order this to go. We placed a call and ordered Szechuan chicken, pepper steak, chicken fried rice and hot and sour soup. They quoted us at 15 minutes for pick up and when we arrived it was all ready to go.

I started my dinner with the hot and sour soup and felt very let down by it. It was neither hot or sour; more bland than anything. Hot and sour soup is my favorite Chinese soup to order. It’s a dish I’ll always order if it’s available and this failed in comparison to many others around town.

As for the rest of the meals, the kids loved the chicken fried rice. But let’s face it, what kids don’t like it? The Szechuan chicken and pepper steak were decent and satisfying. The portion size alone was great for the roughly $6 we spent on each of the meals. It was about what you’d expect at any fast Chinese establishment. We weren’t disappointed with the meals but we also weren’t going to rave to all our friends about it. I should add though that while the meals were decent the egg roll was bad. There wasn’t much to it in terms of filling and it was more fried shell than anything – letdown.

Upon finishing our meals, I looked at the reviews and it appears Asia One has their fans but for me I wasn’t impressed by it like others. Asia One also has Japanese dishes on their menu and I was kind of regretting not trying one of those. Maybe I will in the future but not anytime soon.

Here’s their menu:

  1. Dude you live in Wichita. Most of the food is bland. I just moved from San Fransisco. This is the only decent asian restaurant I’ve been able to find.
