KFC’s Chicken & Waffles are worth passing on

When fast food restaurants put out new menu items, I can’t help myself. I have the word “SUCKER” written on my forehead and those national chains know it.

The latest in the world of fast food is from KFC with their chicken & waffles. This officially came out in Wichita on Monday and are only available for a limited time. I had it marked on my “food calendar” that my stomach lives off of.

I stopped by and gave these a try last night and am beating myself up for it because frankly, they suck.

First let’s get to the cost. You can get these in a single waffle basket with either 3pc tenders, 2pc drum and thigh or 1pc breast for $5.49. There’s also a bigger version for $7.49 that comes with more chicken and waffles. While not advertised, you can also purchase the waffles separately at $2 a piece if you’re ordering a bucket of chicken like I did.

While there are plenty of places to get chicken and waffles in Wichita, I still talked myself into stopping by KFC. It’s not a fast food place I frequent often. About the only time I go is for random gimmicks they put out. BUT I was open to trying their waffles to see what they were like with an open mind.

My two piece waffle order came with a couple packets of syrup. The same kind of packets that McDonald’s and Wendy’s has for their dipping sauces.

The first cut in and it felt as though they were frozen waffles cooked in bulk, sitting in a tray waiting to be ordered from suckers like myself and reheated once said sucker came in. They lacked any aroma and had a tough exterior but rubbery texture. Had a movie been made about frisbees, these waffles could have been a great stunt double for any frisbee. The maple syrup had no chance of salvaging these.  As for the chicken, I’ll pass. I’m not a fan of KFC’s secret recipe chicken; it’s better off staying a secret.
