Must Try Menu Item: Tres Leches Cake from Juarez Bakery

When it comes to Mexican pastries, there’s no bigger name in town than Juarez Bakery. There’s such a massive selection of goodies and treats to choose from. But for the latest installment of the “Must Try Menu Item” feature, we give our best shot at narrowing it down to just one.

The tres leches cake. A tres leches cake, is a sponge cake—in some recipes, a butter cake—soaked in three kinds of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. You can buy the whole thing or get a single slice for a few bucks.

There’s often been debate on where the best tres leches cake in town is and in my research, there is none better than Juarez Bakery. Of course, that’s just my opinion and something you’ll have to find out for yourself. But if you’re willing to travel around town trying them, this place is a great start.

It’s fresh, delicious, moist, flavorful and everything an excellent cake should be. It’s not overly rich; very light actually. Just make sure to eat it quickly and don’t let it get too soggy; otherwise the texture can get pretty bad. I usually order a couple slices and try to eat it in the car. Safe…I know but it’s the risk I take.
