Wichita’s north side has been home to some of the best Mexican food in town. When driving up and down Broadway or Arkansas, you’ll run in numerous restaurants. So many of them are fantastic and worth going to. There’s one at 29th and Arkansas that has been open for over twenty years and remains one of the busiest. That is Paleteria La Reyna.

Paleteria La Reyna is known for their Mexican ice cream that’s made in house. The paletas and other desserts are a great way to end any meal but for the purpose of this review, let’s focus on the food. The menu (found below) covers the gamut of the main Mexican staples.
On more recent outings with some random groups, we’ve tried their flour tacos, regular street tacos, enchiladas, sopes, elote, and more. By most accounts the food was excellent. Some people have said their fried tacos are the best in the city. I cannot confirm this though as I’m not much of a fried taco guy. The enchiladas were filling and flavorful and loved by all in the group. The portion sizes there were wonderful. The one spot they don’t quite deliver on compared to the north side competition is the street tacos.
This place can get very busy over the lunch hour so that’s something you’ll want to keep in mind. Sometimes it could take 10-15 minutes or longer to get your food depending on how many customers that come in. For as great as the food is, I’ll admit that the service can be a little spotty at times. Sometimes it’s great and attentive, other times it seems like the lunch rush overwhelms them.
But for the food quality, they have been very consistent over the years.
One of these days I’ll have to go back in and do a dessert only review. Who’s in?
