It was a busy 2018 at Wichita By E.B.. Many new restaurants, breweries and bars joined our vast food community. I looked at reviews over the past year and made it a goal to choose my five favorites of 2018. While picking out just a handful was hard to do, I stepped up to the challenge and narrowed it down. Of course there were some other great ones that opened this past year but only five could make the list so here goes nothing……….
Fish & More – 2021 S. Oliver
I just loved this little hole in the wall on south Oliver that served catfish and other comfort foods. They probably served the best catfish I had the entire year.
Little Lion Ice Cream – 2721 E Central Ave
“New” depending on how you look at it. Little Lion used to serve out of a truck and had little kiosk stands around town. Earlier this year, they were the first tenants to open up inside Revolutsia and have become a frequent stop for the staff at Wichita By E.B.. It’s our dessert haven.
Birrieria Ocotlán – 123 E 21st St N
As is the case every year, new Mexican restaurants popped up all over the city. But there was one that really set themselves apart with their birria. Only downside to this restaurant is they are only open two days a week (on Saturday and Sunday).
Prost – 2721 E Central Ave
Revolutsia coming in hot with a second appearance on this list with the new German restaurant Prost. This one shot up my family’s list of favorite restaurants. It’s also been a hot topic among my circle of friends who have already been there and raved about the quality and authenticity of the dishes.
Mama Nith’s Crawfish – 604 S Topeka
The Viet-cajun seafood restaurant garnered lots of attention and was packed during their first month of business. There aren’t too many options in town for this type of food. Whether it was friends or family, we loved it. Service times still seems to be an issue for this restaurant so that’s something they will definitely have to work on to keep it going for 2019.
Speaking of 2019, there’s a lot already in store for the new year. The list of new restaurants coming are already making me salivate at the potential awesome food on the horizon. Who makes next year’s list? I can’t wait for my stomach to find out.
