Have you been effected by the government shutdown?
Three local businesses are stepping in to help those impacted.
Deville’s Barber Shop who I use on a regular basis is offering free haircuts. They are located at 2433 W Douglas. The free haircuts are available from now until Saturday. All you have to do is bring in your federal employee ID and you get your haircut for free with no questions asked.
Owner Elvis Wilson said, “It always feels great to help somebody out, but the biggest thing to think about is all these people are usually moms and dads or grandparents or something, and they’ve got little ones they’re trying to get handled through school and sometimes, $15 or $20 is the difference in a tank of gas or a meal or something just to get to the daily grind, so it kind of just takes the edge off.”
It’s another great gesture by the barber shop who also gave free haircuts to veterans on Veteran’s Day.
Then there’s the local food truck Hot-2-Trot Gourmet Hotdogs. They are giving a free Hot-2-Trot Gourmet Hotdog to anybody effected by the shutdown. Just visit any on of their locations, and show your badge. It’s good for one hotdog per day. You can visit them on Facebook to find out where they will be. If you visit them while they’re at Augustino Brewing from Wednesday through Saturday, you can get 1/2 off beers when showing your badge. So effectively a beer and a hotdog for $2.50.
UPDATE: The Arcade has jumped into the mix. Every Thursday night until the shutdown ends, effected government employees get in free. Just show your federal ID badge.
Just a great show of support from some local Wichita businesses stepping up in the community.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
