The popular west-side Mexican restaurant, Los Compadres Mexican Grill, recently moved into the former Jersey’s space way out near K-96 and Webb. It’s really off the beaten path and out of the way for many. But we wanted to give it a fair shot and stop by to see what it was like.

It was a quick visit for us on a Taco Tuesday. Once we were seated, they immediately brought us complimentary chips and salsa. There wasn’t anything too memorable about either item. They were your standard fare: lightly salted corn chips and salsa that offer was high in onions.
For lunch, we went with a few tacos and a burrito. Both items came out in what felt like minutes; quick service over lunch meant a huge positive.
My girlfriend enjoyed her burrito. She liked the smothered cheese sauce over the top. It was a nice break from her constant eating of tacos I’ve forced her to do. She noted there were plenty of filling and it was all distributed evenly. Often times you’ll find burritos that are heavy in one ingredient like lettuce or meat or cheese. That wasn’t the case here.
As for the tacos, while they were good it wasn’t close to anything I’d put as the best in town. They seemed fairly basic in design and flavor. No meat really stuck out to me. It could have used a little more seasoning or something so I ended up drowning it in salsa. But for one dollar, it didn’t bother me too much.
It was a quick and affordable lunch for the both of us. My biggest fear for them is location. It’s really out of the way for many people and in an area of town that not a lot of people consider when choosing where to eat or drink. I hope I’m wrong but that could be a big problem for them in the future. We shall see.
