In our latest review, we revisited Krispy’s Fried Chicken & Seafood. The national publication Taste of Home listed them as the best fried chicken in the state of Kansas. It’s probably been a couple of years since my last visit out there so we wanted to stop back by for a revisited review.

This was Megan’s first visit out to Krispy’s and we actually went due to a recommendation her father gave her more so than the Taste of Home article.
On our visit, we ordered a three-piece meal (I specifically asked for two legs), five piece hot wings, Catalina coleslaw, two large catfish dinner. She was impressed on the price alone. For $6.99, she received two large catfish filets, fries, a salad and a roll.
Everything came out in a timely manner which was nice since we’ve been to our fair share of restaurants where fried foods can take forever. The chicken and the catfish had a nice golden color to it and lacked the greasy coating often found at other places. As the namesake of the restaurant, you can certainly expect a good crispy breading that was also flavorful. The chicken was moist, juicy and tender; everything you’d want in fried chicken. The Catalina coleslaw was a very tasty complimentary side that looked to be a new addition to the menu that was being advertised.
Megan really loved her catfish and felt that one filet was more than enough for her. That just equated to leftovers for me to eat. And the hot wings were quite a surprise to me. I forgot what they were like and was expecting wings drowning in sauce but what I received were five wings where the heat was in the meat. It was all very tolerable but someone with a low tolerance for spicy foods may differ.
It was a delicious dinner and one where we both felt compelled to return soon again. The debate for best fried chicken is like any other food debate in town. Everyone certainly has their own opinions but rest assured, Krispy’s deserves to be in the discussion.
