Turner Falls Park in Oklahoma: An easy road trip for the family

I would have never guessed there was a waterfall in Oklahoma of all places. But a little over three hours south of Wichita, you’ll find a beautiful little area located on Honey Creek in the Arbuckle Mountains in south central Oklahoma. It’s Turner Falls and there’s a big park around it that every family should road trip to at least once.

Turner Falls Park is located in Davis, Oklahoma. It’s a very family-friendly destination that includes a 77ft waterfall, cabins, rock castle, R.V. Hookups, hiking trails, natural swimming and wading areas, sandy beaches, and more.

Most friends and family don’t point me out as an “outdoorsy” guy but since my family wanted to go down I figured why not. It was an adventure and those I’m always down for.

You do need tickets for Turner Falls Park. Winter rates which run from October 1 through April 30 are $5 daily admission. Children under 5 are free. Their regular summer rates increase to $14 for adults, $7 for children ages six to 12, under five are free and seniors 55+ is $7.

There are also many cabins for rent that range from $125 to $250 a night depending on the time of year. These go by fast! Camping and R.V. rates run from $12.50 to $25.

We made it a two day trip and enjoyed the entire park. Our original start was at the waterfalls and we waded our way to the end of the park where there was a huge swimming area with diving boards and slides. Just beware that there are no lifeguards on duty so take the proper preventative measures. Bring the right flotation devices. The park does not rent or provide these and there are varying water depths throughout the park.

Besides spending time in the water, we also did a little hiking and checked out the old rock castles which the kids seemed to enjoy.
