Food trucks at the fountains took place earlier this week and it’s always my goal to visit a truck I’ve never been to. While looking around, a big black truck caught my eyes. There was a line of a dozen or so people and others walking away with great looking plates of food. So I hopped in line and awaited my turn at The Bomb BBQ.

According to their website, The Bomb BBQ is a small, unique BBQ catering and food trucking business serving Wichita and a huge area that spreads out to cities like Clearwater, Augusta, Andale, Conway Springs, Cheny and more. They are made up of military members currently serving, retired military, and friends and family. Most of them were former bomb builders, hence the name The Bomb BBQ. I love a business with a great story and was the food was equally as great.
When I was up to order. I asked them to order me whatever. I didn’t care what it was, I just wanted whatever they would recommend. Without any hesitation, they suggested the shredded smoked sirloin with a side of their ammo beans and the brisket beefy chili. I added a hot link to my order for a dollar.
While I awaited my order, there was a table full of pickles and sauce they make themselves. I’m a huge sucker for condiments. There were spicy pickles, regular dill and bread & butter. All three had a nice crunch to them and good enough to be their own meal if you love pickles.
Once my food was ready, I tried their jalapeno BBQ sauce and raspberry habanero BBQ sauce; both of which offered small amounts of heat followed by a sweet aftertaste. My meal was great from start to finish. My girlfriend sampled some of my chili and loved not just the flavor but texture with the brisket mixed in. The beans were great as well. One of the very few times I enjoy beans is as a side with BBQ. The smoked sirloin in the sandwich itself was incredibly tender. I loved every second of it and was so full once I was done.
For $8, it was easily one of the best values I’ve seen at a food truck for everything I received. The dollar hot link was like a worthwhile dessert. My experience was certainly “the bomb”.
I hoped to try some more off of their menu but some things were sold out so that just gives me a reason to return. Great story, great food, great prices….. add this one to your list.
To make the visit even better, 10% of their sales went to support Passageways, a local Wichita veteran’s homeless shelter.
