If you’ve been to the old Moe’s Sub Shop, you know how run down the interior started to get. Birrieria Tito did a fantastic job of cleaning the place up, adding a new coat of paint and brightening up the place. Seating now goes all the way to the back instead of the old benches and pinball machine.

Only the owner was working the day I stopped by. I ordered the birria, a taco and tostada de camaron all at her recommendation. The food was ready in no time. While I’m used to mostly goat birria, the birria here was beef. The owner told me, it’s different but still delicious. I took her word for it and was ready to chow down on everything in front of me.

While the birria was thicker, denser and not as tender as some of the goat birria I’ve had around town, she was spot on with the fact that it was delicious. There was a good beefy flavor to it that was only intensified with all the salsa options she made available to me. Even better was the birria en consume (seen in the bowl). There were times, I made little tacos as well as ate it as a soup. She gave me a little bowl of some sauce that gave it more heat if needed which I obliged. I also loved the tostada de camaron which had nice chunks of shrimp on it with a big blast of citrus acidity which would be toned down by the avocado. All in all, they were three great little dishes.

I was the only person in at that time and she asked if I ever had Jamaica (pronounced huh-my-ca). It was essentially hibiscus water that was really refreshing and a little on the flowery side but not so overpowering. That would be something I’d order again….I LOVE LEARNING NEW THINGS!

Since I was the only person in, I chatted it up with the owner and she educated me on some things on the menu. She was very nice and sweet and I definitely enjoyed my time there. She mentioned on the weekends, she plans to grill outside so that is something to keep an eye on.

Otherwise, I had a fantastic time there and an enjoyable meal. What more could I ask for?

Be sure to check them out on Facebook.
