Reviewing Big Larry’s Burgers in Valley Center

When it comes to burgers outside of Wichita, Big Larry’s Burgers is one recommendation you will often get from many diners. The restaurant known for their burgers, fries and shakes is located in Valley Center and has been a staple in the city since 2008.

The beauty of having this blog is making short drives out to these little gems that are really popular in their town or dedicated foodie communities.

I made the stop with a couple of friends and we ordered the burgers, fries and shakes as their website suggested. For safe measure, I ordered a chili dog because I like to eat unhealthy amounts of food for my size.

Everything came out quick despite the restaurant filling up and lines approaching the door.

We were given our old-fashioned burgers which were 3/4 lb patties that weren’t too greasy or overly juicy. They were your simple basic burgers that were well-seasoned. If you like a no-frills burger, this place is right up your alley. The bun didn’t take away from what should be the star of the burger yet it does its job of keeping everything intact. The fries were nice and crispy; there was a canister of seasoning that I completely doused my fries with zero regret. Two of my buddies went with the cheese fries which were smothered in oozy cheese that will likely make for an extended afternoon break.

I’m not sure what kind of chili they used but for as visually unappealing as it was, it tasted way beyond my expectations. I would have ordered a second one had I had room.

While I don’t order shakes often, they recommended me the peanut butter one and it was smooth, creamy and the night cap I needed to end my lunch and the workday.

For food challenge fans, if you order the Triple Big Larry which is three 3/4 lb patties, you can make their Hall of Fame.

Or if you want to take it to an even higher level, you can try and break the record of 10 patties. The man seen above wearing the red shirt currently holds the record of 10 patties which is the equivalent of 7½ lbs of beef and 1½ lbs of cheese. Does anybody have what it takes to do 11?

Overall, we had a great time at Big Larry’s. It’s your typical family run burger joint with nice, friendly people, quick service, clean interior and good prices.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
