Sit @ Thai Bistro Review

Sit @ Thai Bistro

Wichita loves Thai food and fortunately for those fans, there’s no shortage of good Thai restaurants in town. They are a little restaurant tucked away in a strip center near 21st & Ridge. With no major restaurant or retailer by there, it’s often a place many people will pass without noticing. No big bright lit up sign sits out front nor is there an official Facebook page so this is one of those restaurants that will rely on word of mouth. Here is your word of mouth.

We were looking for dinner so decided to swing by Sit @ Thai Bistro. It’s been over a decade since I last stopped by this location. There was a short-lived spot out east but that has since closed many years ago.

For dinner, I kept it simple and went with a bowl of Hot n’ Sour Tom Yum soup with a place of steamed rice. My girlfriend went with the drunken noodle also known as pad kee mao which was flat rice noodles sauteed with garlic, onion, bell pepper, fresh chili and basil.

I really loved the Tom Yum soup. It’s one of my favorite Thai dishes out there. It had such a good balance of different flavors, ingredients and textures in one bowl. You had a little bit of a sour flavor, followed quickly by some heat. The broth was so light and acidic but the chicken, lemongrass, and mushrooms gave it some substance. The opaque broth made it look like it wouldn’t be too filling but it certainly was especially with a small plate of steamed rice to add as some filler. Definitely a bowl I’d order again.

My girlfriend also enjoyed her drunken noodles. Her one complaint was the amount of herbs in it which gave it a big black licorice taste; whether it was tarragon or the basil we weren’t exactly sure. But everything else was great. The sauteed noodles had a good smokey flavor which was complimented well by the bed of vegetables on top. The big heaping plate was very filling and satisfying.

People often ask what the best Thai restaurant is in Wichita. While some are certainly better than others, you really can’t go wrong with Thai food in Wichita. Obviously people who grew up on it or are from Thailand may think differently. But for the average palate who hasn’t had tons of it outside of a restaurant, Thai food in town has been great. It’s one of those ethnicities of food where you can’t go wrong. We are really lucky to have some great options. Sit @ Thai Bistro is one of them.
