Must Try Menu Item: Jambalaya Pizza at Marchello’s

Marchello's

Let’s be completely honest. The last time I went to Marchello’s Restaurant, it was a disaster of a visit. I’ve had some friends over the past year have similar experiences. But at the same time, I’ve also heard people rave about their pizzas. We’re all about second chances here at Wichita By E.B. and decided to go back despite how our last dinner there went. And what do you know? It was good enough to make an appearance in the latest installment in the “Must Try Menu Item” feature.

Marchello’s has a slew of pizza options which you can view here. They advertise their pizzas as being made with a fresh homemade crust with a rich pizza sauce. You can then order it as an original (thick) or New York Style (thin) crust.

I decided to go with their 16” original crust Jambalaya pizza. It was made with chicken, shrimp, sausage, onions, green peppers, black olives, spicy pizza sauce, and cheese. Since I wasn’t sure I’ve ever seen a Jambalaya pizza on a menu around time (and there very well could be another), I decided to give this one a shot.

We ordered the pizza to go and the aroma got to me so bad I took a slice and forgot to take a picture of it before digging in. On smells alone, I’d buy it in candle form if it were an option.

My girlfriend usually sticks to basic pizzas and was hesitant to try it but after the first slice, her immediate response was, This is really good! And indeed it was, I probably had five slices in a row before taking a timeout. It was a really hearty meal that was extremely filling. While I wouldn’t say it tasted like Jambalaya, the mix of the chicken, shrimp and sausages with their spicy pizza sauce offered an amazing flavor profile that hit you from all angles. It wasn’t even all that spicy but still delicious.

I hate it when pizza slices are very inconsistent with their toppings. That wasn’t the case here. Each slice had no shortage of toppings. My girlfriend had about two slices before tapping out.

My biggest regret was forgetting to order the pizza without black olives because we cannot stand them. Otherwise, it was one helluva pizza.

We did order this carryout so maybe next time we may try dine-in to see if the service has improved.

  1. I have dined there several times and never have had a problem with the food or the service. Once in a while it is a little slow but they usually create each meal one at a time.
