It was my second year doing judging honors at ICT Pumpkinfest. The event which took place during the West Side Food Truck Rally at the Sedgwick County Zoo had a great turnout followed by amazing weather.
The sun was out, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and pumpkin everything was in the air.
Eight food trucks took participated in the competition. I was joined by DJ Carbon and Fert the Foodie on the judges panel and in the end we unanimously voted The Hot Pl8 as the winner of ICT Pumpkinfest.
The Hot Pl8 which is a new Filipino truck we reviewed here had a Coconut Creamed Chicken (also known as Ginataan Manok) where the squash was replaced with pumpkin. After the first bite, I knew it was going to be a hard dish to beat. After so many sweet dishes, this was the one savory dish that really stood out. The coconut taste meshed so well with the pumpkin, chicken and rice.
There were lots of great dishes that day with my second and third favorite being the pumpkin funnel fries I believe were from Off the Wheaten Path and the pumpkin chili from Hot-2-Trot. Here were the rest of the dishes I dined out Sunday afternoon.
On ended my day with a quick stop to Dunkin for their pumpkin munchkins….. NOT GOOD.
Big thanks to the food truck for having my family and I out this afternoon. We had a FANTASTIC time.
