Let’s Review Golden Corral!

Let’s review Golden Corral.

Founded in North Carolina, the American family-style restaurant chain with nearly 500 locations serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring a large all-you-can-eat buffet and grill. Wichita has two locations; one at Maple & Ridge and the other at Kellogg and Greenwich.

The buffet costs anywhere from $9.49 to $14.49 for adults depending on what day of the week or time you stop by.

If you’ve ever been to Furr’s, Ryan’s or Hometown Buffet, you have probably have an idea of what to expect. They have a vast number of different items on the buffet line like chicken, pork chops, tacos, soups, salads, desserts, pizza, comfort foods, and so much more. I took pictures of the entire buffet line which I’ll add at the end to give you an idea of what to expect.

I sampled as much as I could on the Golden Corral buffet line before feeling like I had just wasted my money. While I didn’t leave hungry, I didn’t leave happy either.

Surely nobody is going in expecting top quality food but I was hoping at least most of it would feel average to me. Alas it was not. While some items were decent like the white rice and teriyaki chicken, so much of it fell flat for me.

Remember growing up and making different food items out of Play-Doh? And for those of you adventurous enough to put it in your mouth, it all looked different but tasted the same? It was a similar experience at Golden Corral. The meatloaf, pork chops and pizza all looked different but shared the same, bland, flavorless bite. At times I almost considered eating Play-Doh instead. Eating the sides like the bread and corn gave off a similar vibe too. To make matters worse, I finished off every plate because I didn’t want to be that guy who wasted food.

One of my friends has this rule: Never eat meatloaf at a restaurant. He would have said ‘I told you so’ had he been at Golden Corral with me. It was horrible.

Would you be shocked if I told you the desserts were equally as bad? Well they weren’t but it wasn’t much of a step up.

If we are comparing prices, Golden Corral is pretty competitive as far as buffets go. It’ll probably also be a big hit for kids since they can eat whatever and the dessert selection is vast. I fondly remember going to Hometown Buffet as a kid and loving every second of it.

I’m not kidding though when I say this but I can probably think of 700+ restaurants and food trucks in town that I’d rather eat at than return to Golden Corral. This was a review, I couldn’t talk any friends or family in joining me. They obviously wanted me to be the person wasting money that day.

Here’s the buffet line pictures as promised.

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. Be glad you didn’t go into the bathroom. I had to take my son that was 7 at the time and that was 4 years ago marking the last time I ever step foot into another Golden Corral. It was horrendous

  2. I’ll never go there again. Last 2 times, came home with the runs. Don’t think that says much about their food.

  3. Last time we went (Kellogg/Greenwich), someone had vomited in front of the buffet. An employee was cleaning it up with a broom. That was 5 or 6 years ago. Never been back.

  4. Out daughter requested to go there about 3 or 4 years ago, my husband has never been there. (Ridge Rd) He said he NEVER wants to go back. I second that. Thankfully our daughter hasn’t asked to go again, we would probably bribe her with something, ANYTHING, to change her mind. No taste at all.
