Mary’s Kitchen in Great Bend reviewed

While headed out to Western Kansas, we made a stop in Great Bend.

We had no idea where to eat so did a quick search on restaurants in town and what was highly regarded as ‘best eats in the city’. One of the recommendations we kept seeing was for Mary’s Kitchen.

Mary’s Kitchen is a little Mexican restaurant that has quite a bit of seating. They advertised themselves as the best burritos in town so we made sure to order a couple. I added on a taco and a pineapple drink to make sure I didn’t leave hungry.

For $5, you get a long narrow burrito. We started in on them and both agreed after a few bites we weren’t impressed with them. The meat was a little on the bland side and extremely greasy. I had a chicharron and adobada burrito and both were a super messy eat that really lacked seasoning. The salsas didn’t do much to help the situation either.

It was a similar experience with the taco. I’m not sure why my taco didn’t come with cilantro and onion but by the time I was done with my burrito, it didn’t matter to me.

On the bright side, the family inside there was beyond nice. They were incredibly friendly which made me feel bad that I just didn’t enjoy their food. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been spoiled non-stop by the plethora of Mexican options here in Wichita. So comparatively speaking, I was let down. Maybe Mary’s Kitchen is the best burrito in Great Bend but for me it was a very unmemorable visit.
