With Taste of Soul Chicken & Waffles closed inside Towne East Mall, a new restaurant has taken its place in the food court. Introducing Athens, a restaurant that allows you to build your own Greek and Mediterranean style wraps and bowls. The new restaurant was opened by the former owner of Marrakech Cafe who sold it to a new owner earlier this year.

I stopped by on Black Friday and the place was packed! They did a great of getting the food all prepared and out to customers. The line was moving fast with just three employees that day. One employee was handling orders, another was preparing the food and the other was carving lamb off of the spit and assisting the other two employees.
The line runs similar to a Chipotle to where you can build your own bowls and wraps. I opted for a lamb and beef gyro they had on sale for $5 along with a Greek salad and some grape leaves.
To get my order to me, I told the guy making my order to just surprise me with whatever. In about five minutes, my order was ready to go.
The biggest selling point that many people will love is they were very generous on the protein. The picture doesn’t do it justice but there was a ton of meat in my gyro.
The lamb was very very very tender. I thought it was great and loved the flavor. For $5, I didn’t have a single complaint. It paired well with the Greek salad which offered a nice light balance to the gyro. The only downside of my meal were the grape leaves which were very cold for some reason and slightly on the low side for filling. They felt pretty bare to me but otherwise it was a really good lunch. Good value, speedy service and delicious food.
