This past year marked the single biggest year of growth on the blog. From readership to traffic, it was a great time putting out material that hopefully a handful of you enjoyed.
I started looking back through the year and many blogs stuck out as very memorable to me. Moments that I’ll look back on with a smile. In case you missed some of them, here are my favorite blogging moments of 2019:
The VietNom Nom Go Pho Yourself Challenge
VietNom Nom is a local Vietnamese restaurant that puts on a food challenge with a ~10lb. bowl of pho. Gladly I had a friend do it and was just able to sit back and enjoy the show.
Grasshopper Tacos
This one had me in the doghouse for quite a while. A Mexican food vendor sold tacos with grasshoppers as the main protein. I really wanted to try it but nobody else was willing. So instead of doing it myself, I pranked my family to give try them unsuspectingly.
Reviewing Olive Garden
Back in November, I did a review on Olive Garden. It brought on quite the disappointment and anger from some people questioning why I would both with a national chain. Instead of obliging to the feedback that I should only review local, I started SaturChains, where I review a national chain every Saturday.
Judging Taco Fest
It’s probably the favorite event for me to judge every year: Wichita Taco Fest. Having to taste 20+ different tacos is not exactly a bad time. This year it was Taco Locale that won it all.
My Favorite Meal of 2019
You may have read the Dining with Denise article where people were asked to come up with the favorite meal of 2019 at a local restaurant. I was asked to partake in the article and if you missed it, my pick was P.M. Sessions at the Canvas by Gaga’s Grub.
Buster’s Burger Joint Saves the Day
One foodie was in hospice and one of her wishes was to get a good juicy burger. Who came in to help saved the day? Buster’s Burger Joint.
An Al Pastor Pizza Creation Fit for a King
A friend gave me an idea to combine Al Pastor from Taquería Al Fogon and Little Caesar’s Pizza. To some people it may sound like a crazy idea, but don’t knock it until you try it.
Most Liked Pizza and Most Liked Burger Bracket
I decided to hold a public Facebook poll where I set up a big 32-restaurant/food truck bracket to determined everybody’s most liked burger and pizza. It turned into something bigger than I thought it would. Many fans and even cities stepped up to back up their favorite places.
Becoming a Dad
By far the highlight of not just my year but my entire life. Becoming a dad, as well as my part-time Dad’s Blog, has been such a joyride; an experience like none other.
So now it’s time to move on to 2020 and see what the blog has in store…..
