My latest stop took me to a place I’ve never been to outside of their brunch buffet. Looking at my list of restaurants, I chose Rain Cafe and Lounge. I’ve heard good things about their non-brunch menu and decided to check it out for myself.

Upon a quick glance at the menu, I knew immediately chili was going to be my starter. A huge bowl came out with a side of chips. I saw they had some Mexican dishes on their menu, so I asked for some salsa for the chips. I probably had 2-3 chips before calling it quits as they were very stale.

On the bright side, I LOVED the chili. It’s no secret I’m not a fan of beans in my chili, but they were far and few between in the chili. Rain’s chili had a ton of flavor and was very rich and thick. I was close to getting full but loved every second of it. I would highly recommend ordering this with any meal.

Because I had a slight bit of room left in my stomach, I went with the House of Classic Plains Rueben which came with a half pound of grilled corned beef with Swiss, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing. The fries were a little soggy and in need of salt or seasoning to make it better. Since I was getting full from the chili, I didn’t bother too much with the fries. My focus was on the sandwich. There were some definite positives and negatives I took away with the Rueben.

On the positive side, there was so much corned beef inside the sandwich that it was certainly worth the menu. The grilled meat was a big winner for me; it was filling and really brought the flavor. The rye bread also held up well throughout the meal. On the downside it could have used a lot more sauerkraut and thousand island dressing to balance out the abundance of corned beef in the sandwich. I ultimately didn’t mind the sandwich but if I were to make improvements that would have been my start. There was definitely more positives about the sandwich than negatives.

Overall while I wasn’t really blown away by everything, I had a very satisfying lunch where nothing deterred me from another visit. I should add the service was top-notch. My server was fantastic in making sure everything was taken care of. I had ZERO complaints from that side of the lunchtime visit.

Would I go again? Yes.

Happy Dining,
