Sally The Robot: The Top Food Trend from the New York Times is in Wichita

Wichita State University is doing their best to focus more on technology and that has included the world of food.

One of the newest arrivals at the Rhatigan Student Center over the summer was Sally The Robot. Sally is a salad-making robot aka vending machine that has been in the food court. Many of us non-students can see it on the way to Koch Arena for basketball games. A tagline on the machine mentioned it was recognized as the New York Times ‘Top Food Trend’.

The process is simple with Sally. Choose your salad and then personalize it with your choice of base, toppings and dressings.

They have different types of salads you can customize like a crispy chicken salad, garden salad, crispy chicken bacon Caesar salad and more.

There were numerous toppings to choose from. Some cost extra while a majority of them were included in the price of $6.99.

Everything was simple and easy. You can watch it run for yourself.

The end result wasn’t too bad and a big healthy portion. It was much bigger than the picture below.

There was plenty of popcorn chicken on top of the salad; it definitely could have been a little more tender for my preference. The skin was almost rock hard. Most of the ingredients like the egg and bacon bits were served fairly generously but the tomatoes were nearly M.I.A.

And the dressing was barely there but supposedly there was an option to choose how much dressing you wanted that I must have missed. I went through every option and never saw it though.

For a quick meal before the game, it wasn’t half bad for $6.99. There are plenty of better salads out there but this machine is there for convenience which it did provide. For students, I’m not sure how many salad options there are on campus so this could be a win for them as well. Definitely not an option I would go out of my way for though.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
