With the current carryout/delivery only mandate due to COVID-19, it looks as though reviews for future visits will be missing that service aspect. I’ll miss the full dining experience but until then, I’ll have to do carryout to get my restaurant fix in.
The latest visit brought me to San Salvador Café. Every Tuesday they have 4 pupusas for $5. For those now learning math at home, it’s $1.25 a piece. Don’t ask me to solve that with common core math because I can’t.
Every week the type of pupusas on special change. You can check their Facebook to see what they have. I’ve gone before when it was pork and cheese but on this visit it was beans and cheese. I called in my order and they had curbside delivery available.
Pupusas look so simple but are probably one of my top ten favorite dishes. I’m such a huge fan of their sauces. Just be careful, their hot sauce will really hit your taste buds on impact. The burn IS REAL but delicious. And their pickled cabbage is wonderful too. I had to ask for an extra bag because I love dumping mounds of it on my pupusas. What’s nice about San Salvador Cafe is their pupusas have lots of filling in them and they are pillowy soft.
I’ve been so many times and the ladies working there are absolute sweethearts. What sucks about this whole carryout deal is you don’t get to interact with the employees. I’ll miss random conversations and having the full experience but until then at least the pupusas are still here for carryout.
If you’re looking for a very affordable, delicious meal, this one should be right up your alley.
