A new Mexican restaurant has opened in the former Rene’s #2 location at 9310 W Central. They don’t have any current signage up at the front but the back drive thru area has their new logo on it.
At the moment, they are cash only and only available via the drive thru so we stopped by real quick to get some tacos so you all have an idea of what to expect.

While it’s not an exact match of Rene’s menu, there were many similarities in the style of food offered. So if you’ve gone to Rene’s before, you have an idea of what to expect in what’s on there. If not, the menu is available at the end of this blog.
I didn’t realize Chiru’s was cash only before stopping by and only had $15 in cash on me. That left me with only being able to order six tacos. Little did I know that’s all we would need.
My order consisted of their adobada, carne asada, lengua and tripa tacos.
Their tacos were massive! One taco was essentially the length of a to go box. Thank God, I didn’t have more cash on me otherwise I would have ordered 10-12 tacos. Two per person were more than necessary for us. Not only were the tacos big, it was overflowing with meat.
The one thing I didn’t necessarily like about their carne asada and lengua tacos was the amount of guacamole salsa poured over the top. I’m a basic guy who likes his tacos bare bones with onions, cilantro and meat. From there, I’ll douse it with sauce if needed. The guacamole salsa was thick and kind of took away from the experience. It was all you could taste. As for the tripa, it was chewy and felt fatty.
Lastly the adobada was fairly decent. It had a nice red coloring to it with a hint of sweetness to it.
I have to say, outside of the size of the tacos, there wasn’t much that left us impressed with Chiru’s. This is probably one of those places, I may venture back out to 6-9 months down the road and try again; perhaps change it up with a plate dinner or burrito.
Here’s their menu:
Happy Dining,
