When talking Italian restaurants in Wichita, no discussion is complete without DeFazio’s. Around since 1982, DeFazio’s has been through the test of time and has built a very loyal audience through the years. With restaurants reopening post COVID-19, this restaurant joined the fray and had their dining room available so I stopped in for lunch.

The staff had all the necessary precautions. Tables were spaced apart, servers had gloves and masks, and diners were asked to sanitize their hands before entering the dining room. During this time, they had a smaller menu to order from but many favorites were still available.
No stop to DeFazio’s is complete without their house salad which includes mixed lettuce, tomatoes, black and green olives, marinated eggplant with a zesty Italian dressing. It was beyond refreshing. The marinated eggplants and Italian dressing gave it an acidic pop that really livened up my taste buds. When it comes to salads around town, it’s one of my favorites.
For the rest of lunch, I had two sleeves of sausage manicotti which came with complimentary bread. There was little doubt I was going to be hungry once I was done. The sleeves were completely stuffed with big chunks of sausage. Manicotti is one of my favorite Italian dishes and DeFazio’s hit a true home run with this dish. To make it even better, the meat sauce was incredibly flavorful. Its sweetness complimented the sausage well.
On top of all that, the service was great throughout my lunch.
I wanted to order some tiramisu before leaving but there was no way I was going to be able to fit it in. Next time, I’m 100% getting dessert.
