What’s New in the Wichita Dining Scene (Summer 2020 Edition)

In case you’ve been in quarantine or opted to stay home for the past few months, you may have missed out on many of the new restaurants and food trucks that have opened up. While the coronavirus has been hard on the restaurant industry, some have managed to get going despite everything going on in the world. Plus, I promised to do a recap for Reddit Wichita so I’m killing two birds with one stone.

Back since around the beginning of May, there have been a plethora of new eats to arrive in town. How many of the 20+ options below have you been to?

What’s New in the Wichita Dining Scene

  • bd’s Mongolian Grill, 111 S Rock Road
    All-you-can-eat Mongolian grill style food has returned to the Douglas and Rock area with fresh ingredients.

  • The Belmont, 3555 E Douglas Ave
    This neighborhood restaurant and bar serves traditional American favorites and is located in the heart of College Hill.

  • Big B’s Beef, Food Truck
    The former restaurant is back in a big way with a food truck selling classic Chicago dishes. They’ve sold out multiple times already.

  • Big Dog Shack, 2265 S Greenwich Road
    Hot dogs, brats, and Italian sausage all available inside the new Eastside Marketplace antique store.
  • Cheri’s Sweet Ride, Food Truck
    Consider this Cheri’s Bakery on the go. It’s classic Cheri’s Treats with a fun, funky food truck twist!

  • Crazy Horse Supper Club, 2539 W Pawnee
    The long time supper club which closed down years ago is back at its original location.

  • Crested Crane Cafe, Food Truck
    Wichita’s first food truck specializing in African cuisine.
  • El Rincon Mexican Restaurant, 11309 E Kellogg Dr
    Many classic Mexican dishes to be had in the space that was formerly Beijing Bistro at Kellogg and Greenwich.
  • Flavors Coffee and Ice Cream Bar, Food Truck
    The former coffee shop and ice cream bar has transformed to a mobile trailer that just went live recently.
  • Fleur De Vin, 2721 E Central Ave
    The wine hall that also serves charcuterie boards is the latest addition to the shipping container mall called Revolutsia.

  • Grandma Thuy’s Eggrolls, 8728 W Maple
    The west side of Wichita’s best option for egg rolls. They recently added wings and crab rangoon to their menu.

  • La Noria Bar & Mariscos, 911 E Morris
    Technically opened in late April but did not get much pub so here’s a nod to the new Mexican restaurant near downtown.
  • Mexi-Kan Kitchen, 1906 N Rock Road (Derby)
    The former Mexican food truck has opened a quick-serve brick & mortar location in Derby.
  • Mil’s On Wheels, Food Truck
    This food truck sells all sorts of food like catfish, burgers, and wings at reasonable prices.

  • Morris St Carryout, 1712 E Morris
    Comfort food near Lincoln and Hydraulic. Three words for you: brisket hot dogs.

  • My Madea’s Soul Food, Food Truck
    Mississippi southern comfort food and treats can be found in Wichita at this new food truck parked near 13th and Oliver.
  • Papa’s General Store, 3700 E Douglas Ave
    The dessert shop at Clifton Square is also a coffee shop and also a novelty store.

  • Pete’s Donut Shack, Food Truck
    This food truck selling mini-donuts has been driving all over Wichita slinging the easy to hold breakfast treat.
  • Pizza Ranch, 2121 N Tyler
    A funzone for kids, all-you-can-eat pizza and most importantly, really good fried chicken under one roof.

  • Round1, 7700 E Kellogg Dr
    The new amusement venue which opens Friday has bowling, karaoke, arcade games and will have a full service bar and restaurant.

  • Tacos Perez Mexican Restaurant, 2347 N Arkansas
    The owners of Tacos Alex/Mr. Taco bring a new restaurant with an expanded menu to the former Las Mananitas space.

  • Wade Waffle Co, Food Truck
    If you love waffles (specifically liege waffles), this is one truck you have to try soon!
