This restaurant has been open less than a year but it’s already moved into my list of my 150 favorite restaurants in town. Please welcome back Taqueria La Chona back as the focal point of this latest blog. It’s a Mexican restaurant that serves phenomenal dishes paired with excellent service. It’s a beautiful marriage that every diner would love.

While trying to decide dinner, were both in the mood for some birria and wanted to revisit one of our favorite spots in town. We ordered the Birria de Res en Platillo which is beef birria, refried beans, rice, diced onions, cilantro and corn tortillas.
We also ordered the Birria de Res en Caldo which is the beef birria in soup form. It’s basically a beef birria stew that comes served with onions, cilantro and corn tortillas.
To round out our dinner, we ordered two al pastor tacos for safe measure. You know….. just in case we were still hungry after all that food.
The beef birria was some of the best we’ve ever had. It’s literally the melt in your mouth type of food that makes you want to drool. The beef was tender, flavorful and had an awesome aroma that was like a massage for your senses. Hell….. the food was like a massage for your taste buds.
It’s such a great dish, we ordered it two different ways. We enjoyed both as you can’t go wrong with either option. I’ve had it in the plate or via the stew and can’t choose which one I like better.
For taco fans, Taqueria La Chona has a great option that often gets overlooked in town. Their al pastor had a subtle sweetness that was incredibly delicious.
Anybody who calls themselves a Mexican food lover, should be adding this place on their list if they haven’t yet.
I’ve been to Taqueria La Chona a handful of times now and the service is always fantastic. This place puts out a great product that deserves the love of Wichita foodies. Show them some love.
