It’s a place that has long been on my list to visit. An outer-Wichita classic that has been referred to me multiple times. But now that opportunity is lost as The Brookville Hotel in Abilene, KS announced Thursday evening they would be closing their doors.

In their online statement they posted, “It is with a very heavy heart that we must announce that the Covid, and the lack of traffic has forced us to close.”

For many, the restaurant was popular for their family-style chicken dinners. And for some others, they were known for their James Beard Foundation Award in 2007 for the American Classics Category.

The Brookville Hotel was owned by Mark and Connie Martin. It’s been family owned since the start of the family-style chicken dinners in 1915. Mark and Connie marked the fourth generation when they took over in 1982. Years later, they made the decision to move the restaurant from Brookville to Abilene.
