Editor’s Note: This restaurant used to called Zacatacos but had to change their name to La Zacatecana Mexican Fast Food
Last month Los Mexican Burritos #2 quietly closed down at 1710 S West St. but the building didn’t stay empty for long. Zacatacos is a brand new Mexican restaurant that opened in the past week. The quick-service restaurant offers a menu that’s similar to many eateries of its kind but is located in an area of town void of many options for dining out.

Zacatacos serves all day breakfast, tacos, rolled tacos, burritos, tortas, tostadas and more.
For our visit during opening week, we stuck with tacos and burritos. We ordered their carne asada burrito along with four different tacos: shrimp, lengua, adobada and carne asada. My daughter was feeling rice and asked me to pick her up a cup.
Be careful when ordering tacos there. They are HUGE and constructed in the same vein of a Chiru’s or Pollo Express. The double tortillas were larger than your average street taco and stuffed to the max. My favorite of the four tacos I ordered were the shrimp and lengua tacos. The lengua was very tender with a nice char around it and didn’t have an overly fatty texture to it often found in cheap lengua. The shrimp tacos were simple yet delicious. My one complaint though was the tortillas were grilled perhaps a little too long which gave them a hard texture so the double tortillas made it even harder.
Meanwhile, the burrito was your typical can I even eat this all because it’s so huge but so affordable burrito that you get from these quick-service restaurants. At $6, it was like two meals in one. Similar to the tacos, they wasted no space nor was there any breathing room for anything. It was like swaddling a baby super tight. There was no way a piece of lettuce was escaping.
Over on south West Street, there are not too many options for dining. What’s nice about Zacatacos is its a place you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner from. Their prices are affordable and their portion sizes are ridiculous. When I swung by to pick up some food, the ladies there were very sweet which made my visit all the more enjoyable.

Happy Dining,

You are definitely finding ways to work the cash out of my skimpy wallet. thanks for the heads up, At this rate I won’t have to eat at the same place for quite some time lol
We live out of town but my husband works in the area. He brought dinner home because he said we had to try it. He has been eating lunch there at least once a week. He brought home chicken quesadillas, chicken burritos, and of course some churros. There is a ton of food for the money and it was delicious! We are looking forward to dinner from here again soon!
