Tuptim Thai: One of the best Thai restaurants in Wichita

Wichita is blessed with many delicious Thai restaurants. It seems like in most areas of town, you can find a great option. In northeast Wichita, one of the best bets for not just Thai food but food in general is Tuptim Thai. They are a restaurant that opened in October 2018 in the former GangNam Kitchen and Adrian’s Café space at 2121 N. Rock Road.

To the surprise of some, this isn’t the only location. There’s also one in Topeka at 220 SW 29th St.

For those who have been to GangNam Kitchen and Adrian’s Café, the interior is similar with the narrow building. It’s a very clean and well kept establishment.

I haven’t stopped by Tuptim Thai for a while, so I was really excited and anxious to check them out. On our visit, we started off with papaya salad. It was a zesty and very refreshing dish. It had an air of sweetness to it that was toned down by the saltiness of the peanuts hidden inside the papaya. We cleaned the dish off quickly.

For dinner, we went with the Pad Thai. I also wanted to order something different and noticed a dish called Tuptim Passion. It really caught my eye considering it was a combination of shrimp, scallop, mussel, crab, squid, chicken, pork, beef, green beans, eggplant and kaffir leaf in a fiery-red curry sauce.

The Pad Thai was a picture perfect dish. It was rich and vibrant with flavors. There was a sourness to it with a kick of sweetness. Many pieces of shrimp were spread throughout the dish to give the meal some texture to go along with the tender soft noodles. It was literally one of the best Pad Thai meals we’ve had on our Wichita ventures.

While the Pad Thai was a knockout, the Tuptim Passion was a step above that. I called it my Protein Passion considering everything that was loaded in the bowl. There was a bit of everything included. Every bite had something different going on with the red curry sauce being the common denominator. One bite would have mussels, another bite chicken and then another was scallops. Don’t get me started on the scallops; they were amazing. I ordered this dish medium and that was the perfect level of heat to savor every bite.

Tuptim Thai was quite the home run of a dinner for us. We loved every aspect of it. From our starter to our main entrées to the cleanliness of the restaurant to the service, they were hitting on all cylinders.

They truly solidified themselves a spot in my 150 favorite restaurants in town.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
