Checking out Jenny Dawn Cellars at Union Station

We here at Wichita By E.B. love getting outside our comfort zone and trying all there is in Wichita to experience. In no way do we consider ourselves wine people but there is a winery called Jenny Dawn Cellars that’s been on our radar. It’s a lovely looking place in the renovated space at Union Station that caught our way while driving by. So, we found a sitter for a couple of hours and made our way to check out Wichita’s first Urban Winery.

Here’s a quick look inside the space.

When we were seated, our server walked us through the menu and explained to us how all the wines were handcrafted and made here in town. I was completely blunt and said I know nothing about wines but I’ll drink whatever. With that we ordered their White and Rosé flight and their Red flight.

Since we both don’t drink wine all that much, we still wanted to have fun doing it. After all, what’s the point of going out and trying something new if you’re not going to make the most of it?

What’s nice for us newbies was that they had paper placemats for the wine that showed us what was what, what to expect in terms of aroma and taste and what each wine paired well with. We took turns sampling each wine blind trying to guess what the aroma and taste was. We were right on zero percent of our guesses but I felt like a wine sommelier for a split second before each guess.

Our server also brought us out some artisanal cheeses to try with the wines. She explained to us how cheeses can make all the difference in how the wines taste, and she was right. We would try the wines separately and then try it again after eating the cheese. For some wines, it was like drinking something entirely different.

I’m not here to review the wines because it wouldn’t be fair for me to critique something I know so little about or don’t have a huge passion for. I will say though that their Rosé was our favorite of all the wines. Regardless of how little we drink wine, we still enjoyed our time at Jenny Dawn Cellars. It was fun to get out and do something different and visit a place that we usually wouldn’t.

Here’s their current menu:
