It’s been mentioned multiple times over the past couple weeks and the day has finally come. Cafe Asia will be closing today.
Their space will be taken over by Pho Le’s starting in 2021 so this is your last chance to get their food at Normandie Center. Their hours will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
If you’ve never been, they are located at 6546 E. Central inside the strip center at the northeast corner of Central and Woodlawn. Owner Yook Gan puts out amazing Malaysian and Chinese dishes that have pleased thousands of customers over the years.
I spoke to them earlier this month and they are ready for the break. After twenty years, some much needed time off is what they’ve been looking for.
But does that officially spell the end of Cafe Asia as we know it?
One of the worst kept secrets in Wichita and something that’s been discussed by many people has been the possibility of a new restaurant in the works at 29th and Rock that they could be involved with. While it does seem likely, nothing is confirmed at the moment. Gan told me she will let me know once things are definite. If 2020 taught us anything, there’s no need to make anything official until it’s a done deal.
Until then, get yourself some Cafe Asia and hope that one day the restaurant can return in some shape, form or fashion.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
