Another mini-road trip brought us to Belle Plaine, KS. There’s a restaurant called David’s Diner that has been on my radar for quite some time. I’ve been watching them on social media and was in the mood for some small-town diner food so we made the trek to the city south of Wichita.

David’s Diner was much bigger than I imagined. There was plenty of seating to go around. We arrived just before a rush of customers came in for lunch.

We perused through the menu which consisted of many traditional American diner staples for lunch and dinner along with a big selection of Mexican dishes. There was a kid’s menu that had some nuggets and fries that caught my daughter’s eyes.

We were given some complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was simple with just a hint of heat. The corn chips were well-seasoned and a good start to our lunch.

For lunch, I let my server recommend me some popular items on the menu. She suggested the Pork Monterrey and the cheeseburger. Since I couldn’t decide between the two, I went with both.

The cheeseburger was a no-frills burger with a soft bun that conformed to the burger patty with no sogginess to it. It was reminiscent of a Sport Burger in Wichita; just a basic burger that wasn’t reliant on much to make it stand out beside what was presented.

As for the Pork Monterrey, it was a 10” deep-fried flour tortilla stuffed with whole beans, pork tips in a savory sauce, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, and sour cream. This is not something I would typically order but sometimes you just go with the flow and keep an open mind to what the staff thinks is best. I enjoyed the pork tips the most out of this dish; it was tender and very flavorful.

My daughter had no problem all with the nuggets and fries. She enjoyed not just feeding her face but the floor as well with so many dropped fries.

I heard they made many of their own desserts so we ordered some strawberry cheesecake before leaving. It was delicious and just what we needed to end our visit to David’s Diner. The cheesecake was so good we ended up buying every table a cheesecake. It was funny because one lady gave me a confused look and said, “Why?”

I had no idea what else to respond besides, “Because it’s Christmas!”. Hopefully, everybody enjoyed the cheesecake as much as we did.

One lady was running the entire floor from hostess to server to busser. It’s typically what you see in small-town diners. She did a fantastic job and was so friendly to everyone. I’m glad we could make it out to Belle Plaine to visit David’s Diner. My daughter and I had a great time.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
