I was passing through Kingman, KS and one highly recommended restaurant for me to stop by was Smitty’s Carry Out. They are your classic old-fashioned hamburger joint. I love these types of places as they are right up my alley. Since it was literally on my way back home, I swung by to grab some burgers and fries.

Upon walking inside, there were a handful of tables to your right as I entered. To my left was the counter and further back you could see the staff cooking what appeared to be over a dozen burgers at once at the grill. It was one of those classic little diners where everything was out in the open and you could watch your burgers being prepared if you wished. I knew from the start, I would smell of burgers when I left but didn’t care at all.
I ordered a double hamburger with fries. For as busy as the place was, I still received my meal in about 10 minutes.
With only a handful of tables left, there was no place to sit but a couple invited me to join their table which I obliged. The first question I was asked after taking some pictures of my food was, “You’ve never been here before, huh?” I smiled, nodded and they gave me their positive reviews of Smitty’s.
My burger came with everything on it and after the first bite, I knew instantly it was going to be a good experience. The patties were 1/3 lb each and made for an incredibly filling burger. The bun was my favorite style that was soft and conformed to my fingers but didn’t soak through. Everything stayed intact until the last bite. It was juicy, flavorful and tasted like a classic burger. The fresh fries had a thick texture and came out piping hot. They weren’t seasoned but nothing the saltshaker couldn’t assist with.
I thoroughly enjoyed not just my burger but the friendly banter with the random diners who I shared a table with. I received some small-town friendliness from literally everybody at Smitty’s.
