First look at the relocated Pho Ong 8

It was a cold evening. We were leaving church and wanted to continue soothing our soul as well as our taste buds. I knew exactly where to go. We hopped in the car and drove over to Pho Ong 8. The Vietnamese restaurant recently relocated a mile west on Harry Street. The new space more than doubled their size to allow for more seating and a larger kitchen. Here’s our first look at what to expect with their new location.

There was so much open space inside the new Pho Ong 8 which allowed for lots of distancing between tables.

Once we were seated, we knew exactly what we wanted. My daughter has been on a huge udon noodles kick, so we went with their stir-fried udon noodles with chicken. Then we also ordered their P1 sirloin beef noodle soup and the P9 duck noodle soup.

The stir-fried udon noodles were amazing. There was a subtle taste to it that wasn’t so oily or greasy. Perfect for someone with tiny fingers to feed themselves. That didn’t stop the adults from joining in on the dish. It truly was a delicious dish.

We came into sooth our taste buds and the pho and duck noodle soup did exactly that. The pho broth was rich and deep with flavor. It was so good it didn’t need to be doctored with hoisin or sriracha; not that it prevented us from doing so. There were plenty of noodles and sirloin beef stuffed into the bowl to make it a filling one.

And what is there to be said with the duck noodle soup? The bowl contained thin ramen-style noodles, fall-off-the-bone duck legs, and a dark broth. The duck meat came off the bones relatively easy to make it more convenient to eat. The broth gave off a more full-bodied flavor that wasn’t salty but noticeably different from other Vietnamese soups. The best part of the soup though was easily the tender duck which was also moist and fatty. Every bite was wonderful.

We had a great time at Pho Ong 8 where the food, service and whole experience was amazing.
