Between spacing tables and the cold winter, outdoor dining has been a rarity in Wichita. Fortunately, Nortons Brewing Company seems to have solved that. Late last year, they introduced garden igloos to Wichita.
The garden igloos are basically plastic domes that are heated inside and provide seating to protect you from the elements. Nortons has three of them set up in their beer garden (with a fourth on the way) and they are one of the coolest additions to Wichita I’ve seen in quite some time.
The garden igloos seat up to six people. Each igloo has its own electric fireplace heater, a dedicated Bluetooth speaker, a little table and ample seating for your party.
We reserved our igloo and had our own server and access to their full food and drink menu. At no time did the server come into the igloo. There was a little opening at the tent where our server could open it up and take our orders and hand us our drinks.
Reserving them was easy and something that has to be done ahead of time because they do get booked up quickly. If you’d like, you can head to their website and reserve yours there. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required for all reservations. The reservations are for 1 and a half hour time blocks. If you want to reserve the igloo for 3 hours, a food/drink minimum of $300 is required plus a non-refundable deposit of $50. With a party of six, that shouldn’t be too hard to hit. Our party’s tab after an hour and a half was at $200.
A few more things to note: The igloos are for 21+, no pets and no smoking inside. You should arrive 10 minutes before your reservation time. All members of your party should be present when they seat you. And lastly your party is required to be on one check with an automatic 20% gratuity. When we tabbed out, we just handed our server our cards and asked to have him split the tab evenly. It’s so much easier than breaking it all out with who had what to eat and drink.
We had an awesome time inside the igloo. The hour and a half seemed to go by in a breeze. Despite the windy 40-degree weather, we were all warm inside the igloo and had quite a bit of privacy from the rest of those sitting in the beer garden.
Our server did an excellent job throughout the night which just added to a fun evening among friends. I highly recommend the igloos at Nortons Brewing Company. It’s just another cool little thing to do in Wichita.
