Some variety in the local food truck scene is here with the arrival of DR. Tawook. They are an online and delivery Mediterranean Kitchen that specializes in Shish Tawook (Chicken Sandwich) and Falafel. They just started parking out around Wichita this week. Here’s what to expect.

The menu at DR. Tawook consist of three items. Tawook, Falafel and nuggets. Combos can be added for $2 which include a drink and a side of either hummus, fries or slaw. Their menu also caters to people who eat Vegan or gluten-free as well.
I decided to order all three dishes they offered. Take a look:
Of everything I ordered, my favorite item was the Shish Tawook which was like a mix of a chicken gyro/sandwich/wrap. The Shish Tawook came with chicken, garlic spread, slaw, fries and pickles. It was hands down the best of the bunch. The pickles, garlic spread and slaw gave it a very zesty and flavorful punch. Big chunks of chicken were stuffed into the Shish Tawook to help push this dish to next level and fill any appetite up.
Next up, the nuggets were essentially grilled chicken bites. They came with a side of a blended garlic sauce which didn’t have such a high pungent, spicy flavor that garlic can be known for. It was certainly more mellow.
The falafel wrap was alright. Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more Tahini sauce, tomatoes and pickles tossed in. While I’m a fan of falafel, it can get dry and grainy-tasting so adding more sauce or something else to get away from that would have been nice. Lastly, the hummus came out very cold. It was a little bit of a shock at the first bite as I’m usually used to slightly cold to lukewarm hummus. The hummus was so cold that’s all my taste buds could focus on.
The guys running the truck were super cool. They were very upbeat and engaging with all the customers who came through. For the first week, I think they did a great job. I’d certainly go back for the Shish Tawook. Everything else came down to a matter of personal preference but things that could be tweaked over time. They’ve laid a good foundation for success and offer a cuisine in the food truck scene that you rarely find. There’s a Greek food truck and that’s about it in the Mediterranean world.
