The Neighborhood Visits When Pigs Fly!

When Pigs Fly! BBQ

Our collaboration of local influencers, foodies, bloggers and vloggers, The Neighborhood, met up again to chat food, share stories, discuss the Wichita dining scene and of course eat some food. Our most recent stop took us to When Pigs Fly!

It’s one of the most popular and beloved BBQ restaurants in town. Their story is very cool as the owners, Brian and Kendra originally met while working together at Old Chicago. A couple of years later, they got married. A year after that in 2009, they started the adventure we now know as When Pigs Fly. A year after that, the doors officially opened for the restaurant, and they are here ever since. The lesson learned here is if you want to find love, get a job at Old Chicago!

During our visit at When Pigs Fly, we had all sorts of savory goodness. There was so much to cover so here’s a visual look at everything we had.

We had what felt like 90% of the menu. There were ribs, smoked turkey breast, pulled pork, burnt ends, hot links, jalapeño cheddar sausage, Smoked Sirloin Sandwich, multiple sides…. I think that was it. My mind was in a food coma just thinking about it.

The owners also introduced us to their new BBQ sauces they were preparing to roll out. Instead of going with their previous sauces, they wanted to create something that was more unique to When Pigs Fly. There was a mild and HOT BBQ sauce we all sampled. Everything could tell the subtle yet worthwhile changes. It was more flavorful with a noticeable touch of molasses that we enjoyed.

Wichita By E.B.

I grabbed my plate and dabbled in a little bit of everything. To be completely honest, I’m not a big turkey guy but theirs was amazing. There was something about it that I loved that I couldn’t put my finger on. I’m scared to say it’s the best I’ve ever had because I don’t want my parents reading this and never cooking turkey for the family again on the holidays. A big favorite of everyone’s that I enjoyed as well was the jalapeño cheddar sausage. It had all the makings of a perfect sausage with its juicy and touch of heat. Needless to say, I was highly satisfied.

  1. I usually go for a 2 meat (ribs and jalapeno sausage) with a Bulldozer on the side. That lets me cover 5 different meats in one visit..lol.

    BTW-Love the new format, Eddy.
